In the kingdom of darkness

Original sin contaminates the soul of each person. It separates us from God. It is caused by our living in Satan's kingdom of darkness.

Some background...

The soul lives in the spiritual realm as the center of our conscious life. Generally we are at this time not aware of the vastness of the spiritual realm, being locked-in to only a small corner of it.

The soul possesses a spiritual body. We experience this when we are waking from a dream and sense our physical body trying to rouse itself from sleep; and at the same time our spiritual body, our dream body, is flying around doing magical things. Both bodies are real, and both bodies belong to us and are controlled by us.

There are many spiritual realms or levels. For example, there is the highest realm, which we will never see, inhabited by God. There is a very high realm in which God reveals himself to us and we worship him. An example...

And immediately I was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. (Revelation 4:2)

The Orthodox Churches refer to these as Essence and Energies of God.

In the spiritual realm symbols have real, tangible substance, as do thoughts and ideas. The spiritual realm is life itself. Everything in the spiritual realm is alive.

My Creative Frames Theory

My Creative Frames theory proposes that the physical world is nonliving and inert. Each instant in time the universe dissolves into nothingness and God recreates it again from nothing, just as he did the first time. He does this a trillion trillion trillion times a second. In each "creative frame" our souls attach themselves to the body. The main point to all this is that our life occurs in the spiritual realm, not the physical world.

Each instant in each creative frame, God chooses where to place every particle of matter. He normally follows the natural laws and uses mathematics to choose where to place things. Thus, the reason the universe appears to be controlled by the natural laws is because God uses these — he is the master mathematician and this is why mathematics seems so cosmic at its very core.

In the new heavens and new earth the physical universe will be the same as it is now, but nothing bad will ever happen. Animals will not eat each other and when tree branches fall they will not crush squirrels. As God chooses where to place every atom, he will do so in a way to cause no harm. Our physical bodies will not need food but we can eat if we choose. We will procreate and will raise our children. The resurrected members of Old Testament Israel will inhabit Jerusalem and the promised land and will perform animal sacrifices in a temple — but just as Abraham did not harm Isaac when he took him to be sacrificed, just so the animals will not be harmed. There will be some sort of Eucharistic sacrifice instead. But this is all off topic.

Lucifer

In our current world bad things do happen. This is because God is not 100% in control. At some point in the past before he created the universe at the very first, he gave control of the physical universe to Lucifer. I suspect the universe was created in the first place as part of this transaction by God with the fallen Lucifer. Here are two Bible passages indicating that Satan's rule on earth is real and that he has power over humans and over nature.

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. (Job 1:6,7,12)

Notice that Satan has the power to affect events in the physical world. This includes the activities of whole nations as well as the forces of nature.

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. (Matthew 4:8-9)

Satan owns all the kingdoms of the world. He tempts Jesus by offering to turn control of these over to Jesus so that Jesus can rule them righteously and stop all the pain and suffering.

God promised something to Lucifer as part of a covenant with him. God must honor this covenant with Lucifer and can only destroy Lucifer and break his power over this world after giving him ample opportunity to redeem himself. Satan attempts to destroy Christ at his first coming but apparently God gives him one more chance even helping him by locking him away for 1,000 years where he could not deceive the nations. When Christ returns the second time, Satan wages war against him, and finally, God judges him. We might wonder why God gave Satan so long a time to repent, but we should be glad God is so slow to judge; this should encourage us to trust that God will redeem us even though we repeatedly fail to live up to his high standards of perfection.

The spiritual realm surrounding the physical universe is a dark cloud of evil and wickedness, inhabited by Satan and all his minions. God had already cast Lucifer down from his exalted position in the high heavens. I think God created the universe and allowed Satan to participate in its administration as a way to test Satan and ultimately judge him to eternal damnation. The lake of fire was to be the final home for the powers of darkness unleashed by Satan's willful rebellion against God. Apparently, God needed a way to test Satan so he could judge him, and thus God created the universe, and ultimately, the human race.

The world before humans (200,000 B.C.) and Adam and Eve (10,000 B.C.) was already infected by Satan. Animals ate each other and tree branches fell on squirrels. In creating Adam and Eve, God created a place of refuge, the garden of Eden, which was a small foretaste of the new heavens and new earth over which Satan had no control except to tempt Eve.

The spiritual realm in which the souls of Adam and Eve lived was a bubble of protection from the onslaught of the ravages of Satan. But Adam and Eve did not have full access to the spiritual realm as the redeemed will have in the new heavens and new earth after sin is destroyed — their souls were trapped within this cloud of darkness surrounding the universe.

The souls of Adam and Eve were susceptible to the influence of sin and they succumbed to Satan's temptation. At this point, their souls became immersed in Satan's kingdom of darkness. God partially withdrew his bubble of protection from around them, but still retained some influence over them. As they called out to God for protection, he expanded his influence — this is the power of prayer.

Calling out to God

Each new human soul created by God as the human race propagates itself inhabits the same piece of the spiritual realm as that of Adam and Eve after the fall. And each soul is in the same predicament. We must call out to God for safety and protection from the onslaught of evil. As we suffer indignities to our person in this short life, we should be moved to reject the bad and accept the good. In this way we vanquish evil, at least for ourselves.

Those who allow the waves of evil and darkness to wash over their souls unimpeded are doomed for all eternity. This is original sin which we must all endure and which the redeemed must oppose with every ounce of strength. Only God can conquer the scourges of original sin.

Original sin is not merely the bad example of others which, by mimicking, we adopt for ourselves. Rather, it is tangled-up with our souls from the moment of each soul's creation. We need to be saved from the influence of original sin much as a drowning man needs to be saved out of the water and pulled into a lifeboat. We are spiritually drowning in original sin.

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. (Colossians 1:13)

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience. (Ephesians 2:2)
